I spent some time in Sri Lanka between January-February 2011. It was supposed to be be their dry season but it rained a lot and it was colder than expected. The rain created a lot of problem for the people there. The transportation of food and people didn't work as it should and in the east they had flooding so severe thad people had to be evacuated.
It was really interesting to be there. People were very frendly and they are fighting hard to get the country to function again after all the disturbance they have had for many years.
One thing that struck me was that all different religions lived side by side without any problem.
